A perfect escape for Canadians looking for something different than Florida for their winter holidays, Scottsdale has everything young travellers (and families, too) could want.
Stay: The Westin Keirland. Peruse its 130-bottle scotch collection, catch a wave on the Flowrider (a pool/surfing simulator that blasts jets of water at 30 mph), or take a ride on a Segway while playing its fabulous 18-hole championship golf course.
Play: Las Sendas. Owned by Canadians, this immaculate layout in Mesa is a true desert-style layout that winds through the Usery Mountains.
Play: We-Ko-Pa. Two different courses (one designed by the team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, the other by lesser-known Scott Miller) We-Ko-Pa was the best I played when I visited. Stunning, and fun from start to finish.
Eat: Different Pointe of View. Overlooking the entire Lookout Mountain golf course property, the restaurant offers panoramic views of the Arizona landscape including downtown Scottsdale.
Do: Cruise the desert in a Tomcar (Bounding over ancient rocks and navigating past cactus of all shapes and sizes, enjoy this open-air vehicle with groups up to four people). Visit Old Town Scottsdale (also just ‘downtown’ Scottsdale, this funky area offers up amazing dining and shopping options along with bars and art galleries.)
