As we celebrate here on our blog, food is not just a means to an end – to fill our bellies when we’re hungry – it’s so much more than that.
Yes, eating fills our gaps, but it also delivers nutrients our body needs, fights off illness and disease, gives us energy to move and think and do, is a primary activity around which gatherings are focused, is a prime component of culture, carries traditions, brings people together, and so much more.
Given its importance in our lives, we thought it’d be fun to gather some of our favourite quotations about food and eating.
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”
– Virginia Woolf
“People who love to eat are always the best people.”
– Julia Child
“The greatest wealth is health.”
“Don’t eat anything your great-grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.”
― Michael Pollan, author of book and Netflix mini-series ‘Cooked’
“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”
“Good food is very often, even most often, simple food.”
― Anthony Bourdain, Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly
“If it came from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don’t. ”
― Michael Pollan
“You learn to cook so that you don’t have to be a slave to recipes. You get what’s in season and you know what to do with it.”
– Julia Child
