“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.” – Bréné Brown
I recently read a post by one of my fave recipe bloggers, Erin over at Well Plated, about self-doubt and negative self-talk, particularly after social situations. She admitted that she was nervous publishing the post, given that it was about something other than food. But by bravely sharing her story, she was able to relate to a lot of people at a personal level and her readers (myself included) appreciated her opening up.
It was so refreshingly authentic that it got me thinking. At the end of the day, blogging is all about the ability to connect to people. And while food or whichever focus of the blog is a way to do that, sometimes you want to dig a little deeper to get to know your “host.”
“Connection is why we’re here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.” – Bréné Brown
After all, a blog is often comprised of “informal diary-style text entries,” according to Wikipedia, so it makes sense that it’s a reflection of who we are. The first page I go to when I’m checking out a new blog is the “About” section… I’m always looking to know more about the person penning the posts.
With this in mind, I decided to reflect on my own blog and see how I could bring more “Stephanie” to Naturally Stephanie. Enter what I’m calling “Behind the Blog.” Every week, I’ll post a new photo and fun piece of info on Instagram about me – whether it’s a little-known fact about myself or something I’ve experienced or learned — with the hashtag #behindtheblog.
While not as always revealing as a diary entry, hopefully it gives you a little window into my world and perhaps something you can connect with. I hope you follow along and share your own thoughts along the way!
Note: the Bréné Brown quotes cited in this post are from her book Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead, and I highly recommend it! You can view other books I love over on Goodreads.
Today #behindtheblog — I've decided to do a new thing every week where I share something about myself so you get a better glimpse into the woman behind the words (and photos!) To start this series off, you may not know that I speak French and Spanish, and love learning new languages. Granted, it's hard to pick up new ones and sometimes practice them as you get older, but it's great to be able to connect with different people, understand various texts, and it certainly comes in handy when travelling (un thé au lait, s'il vous plaît?) ☕️🙋🏻 • • • Do you like learning new languages and how has it benefitted you?! 📖 #foodlover #eatclean #fbcigers #photography #bloggers #bloggerlife #foodlove #effort #focus
