It’s the hot spice du jour! But it’s not actually hot – a major plus in my books.
It may be tough to spell (there are two ‘”r’s” in it, people!), but it’s super easy to incorporate into your diet.
If you don’t already know, turmeric is all the rage these days – and for good reason. It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory agent, antioxidant, and its main active ingredient, curcumin, is linked to improved brain function, lower risk of brain disease, lowered chance of heart disease, depression, and more.
How I love it:
Fellow wellness blogger Picky Diet has an awesome recipe for this simple and delicious tea (which I love adding a touch of raw honey to). I actually drank it a few nights when I felt a cold was coming on, and I never ended up getting sick! Whether that was just the placebo effect or something else that cured it, who knows. But I have a sneaky suspicion my new fave bedtime drink had something to do with it.
Ok, so you’re making your fave soup – chicken noodle or turkey rice or minestrone or veggie quinoa – and need to add that extra something. Enter turmeric. Its gentle flavour seems to enhance the aroma of the soup and is a wonderful addition to homemade stock, as well.
I love a good frozen banana nice cream and other refined sugar-free cool treats, but this one certainly takes the (ice cream) cake. Made with coconut cream, it’s vegan, naturally sweetened and boasts the superpowers of turmeric all in one delicious treat. The taste reminds me of chai – soothing, comforting, and melt-in-your-mouth (literally). Kudos to The Hearty Soul for the recipe!
My advice: don’t be afraid of turmeric; in fact, be afraid to not be involved with it! Let me know your fave ways of incorporating it into your diet.
